Prairie Exhibit Named "Best of Best" for Kids
The
Hands-on House at the Kohl Children's Museum of Greater Chicago has been named among the "
Best of the Best" local attractions for children by Chicago Magazine.
Special recognition of the Prairie-sponsored exhibit appeared in the magazine's annual awards issue, published in August 2011.
The fun, interactive display gives kids an "inside view" of how construction workers put a home together, starting with the foundation and frame.
See-through panels reveal studs, wiring, insulation and other features, while soft, removable tiles let kids complete the home's exterior with their choice of finishing materials. Pulleys, cranks and chutes designed for small hands help them move materials around the construction site.
"We are surprised and delighted to receive this significant recognition," says Museum President and CEO
Sheridan Turner.
A longtime partner in the museum's early learning programs, Prairie also takes part in annual
Touch a Truck celebrations held near the Glenview, Illinois museum campus. At the event, kids of all ages enjoy climbing behind the wheel of a Prairie ready-mixed rig.
